Reader Mailbag - Minneapolis Bed & Breakfasts
Dear Girl Friday,
Are there any hotels or B&Bs in the Uptown area or anywhere nearby?
Thanks,
Carrie
Dear Carrie,
Excellent question! One to which I didn't know the answer until doing a little research. I'd never think of going to a bed and breakfast right here in the city, but it makes sense if you think about it. Us city dwellers like to get away once in a while, but who wants to drive to Stillwater during construction season? Not me. And who wants to go to Duluth for the bazillionth time? No thanks. Plus, our Twin Cities bear many of the oldest and most beautiful houses and mansions in the Midwest. So here's a list of them:
The Coe Carriage House
1700 3rd Avenue S, Minneapolis
The Covington Inn (a riverboat on the Mississippi)
100 Harriet Island Road B3, St Paul
LeBlanc House
302 University Avenue NE, Minneapolis
Nan's Bed & Breakfast
2304 Fremont Avenue S, Minneapolis
Van Dusen Center's Guest Rooms
1900 LaSalle Avenue, Minneapolis
For a great hotel experience just blocks from Uptown, look no further than the graves | 601 hotel at Block E in downtown Minneapolis. Their comfy accomodations, attentive service, and great dining get my Girl Friday stamp of approval. Have brunch downstairs at Cosmos or order breakfast in bed from room service; either way, I guarantee it will be fabulous. Look over their specials to find just the right package, including a late checkout option. The graves | 601 is ultra modern (they don't even capitalize the g in graves), so if you want something more traditional, then I'd recommend the Grand Hotel, also in downtown Minneapolis. It's a little further from Uptown but definitely a classic, not to mention classy.
Don't forget 1900 Dupont, one block north of Franklin Ave. It is really lovely, or it least it was eight years ago when my husband and I were married (some of our wedding guests stayed there and everyone thought it was great).

Thanks for the ideas...I have a tiny apartment in Uptown and the parents plan on visiting soon - your advice was much needed!

No problem! That's the absolute best reason to find a B&B.

I had my parents stay at the LeBlanc house this last summer when they visited for mental health reasons. They liked the area and found the house comfortable. In the big picture for downtown places to stay it was reasonable.

The graves 601 hotel is beautiful and all, but I don't know about the hotel staff.
