New Thai in Northeast
Actually, the title of this entry should read "Only Thai in Northeast," but whatever.
A "coming soon" sign has graced the window of the former Palm Court space at Central and Lowry, and Sen Yai Sen Lek Thai Rice & Noodles promises to move in soon.
I'm already excited; there are exactly three Asian restaurants in my neighborhood, all claiming to serve authentic Vietnamese food, and all are crap. (Okay, that's harsh; Que Viet isn't terrible, but I'd rather walk the 6 miles across town to Quang wearing 4-inch T-strap heels before I'd eat at Cali's or Kim's.)
Anyway, being the fan of all things Southeast Asian that I am, I will welcome Sen Yai Sen Lek Thai Rice & Noodles with very open arms. No word on the opening date yet, but I'll keep you posted.
Good to know. I'm not a gigantic Thai fan, but it'll be nice to not have to go anywhere near Uptown when I do want it.

In the Small World department: I heard about this at my son's pre-school end of year picnic. The chef/owner of the new restaurant had a kid in the other class from my kid. He brought a sensational shrimp curry to the potluck.

sweet - i had forgetten they were going in at lowry and central - the neighborhood is picking up - especially with the closure of Sully's across the street. how about a real coffee shop in the neighborhood? my sources say some enterprising fellows are putting one in what used to be lucilles flower shop on 13th.

The chef and co-owner (Joe Hatch-Surisook, with his wife Holly) of Sen Yai Sen Lek is from Thailand. He is a chef who teaches cooking classes through "Kitchen Windows" in uptown and other places. He's an excellent chef, with great attention to detail, and is really into organic foods. It promises to be AWESOME! Construction and painting parties already underway and the place should open sometime in August!
