I emailed a link to Rick Nelson's review of Cafe Agri (in which he doesn't have very many nice things to say) to Janelle yesterday. For those sort of new to Girl Friday, Janelle is a longtime friend who's also longtime allergic to both wheat gluten and cow's milk. Her response to Rick's unflattering 1 and 1/2-star write-up:
"Ooh, I disagree! I haven't eaten much of the regular dinner-type food, but I am in love with their gluten-free french toast. I go there at least 1 x month for a solo breakfast and would go more often if it wasn't so expensive. I also think their desserts are quite good, especially the new chocolate almond cake with orange sauce."
Good enough for me. Cafe Agri sounds like a wonderful option for those with food restrictions who enjoy going out to eat. Knowing firsthand the level of difficulty in adjusting from using wheat flour in my home kitchen to using other types of flours (often with either sludgy or cement-like results), I'm betting the specialty options at Cafe Agri are better than what you can get most places. Janelle rarely raves about her dining out experiences (it's more like vented frustration), so her ringing endorsement carries a lot of weight for me.
