Cable TV is a rip-off. You can get almost 20 channels in the Twin Cities for free with a digital tuner, and anything good on cable-only channels comes out on DVD and/or becomes available via the Internet.

People talk about how much trash is on TV, but there are a lot of very good shows right now.

Prison Break
Doctor Who (on the BBC... I pull them from the Internets the day after initial broadcast)
Torchwood (ditto)

That, right there, is more than I can keep up with.

I get by Battlestar Galactica and Sopranos fixes via DVD, and on the rare cases where something genuinely funny happens on The Daily Show or the Colbert Report, clips of it are all over YouTube in a matter of hours.

I say: Stick to your guns! Tell your friend if he wants you to watch his show, he should burn you a DVD or something.

People talk all the time about Catholic guilt. Those people have never had a Jewish grandmother. We've had about 3,000 more years to perfect the guilt trip, and it shows.
