I've gotten a few emails the past two weeks asking me how I got on the mailing lists for all the press releases I get every day. I have no idea. I guess some folks are just more local web-savvy than others.
There are a couple of other sites around town are worth keeping in your blogroll, though, if you want to stay on top of store openings, retail sales, fun charity events and other shopping-related news.
- AliShops - The original local website of its kind, Alishops keeps tabs on local sales like nothing else. Alishops is the brainchild of Allison Kaplan, Pi Press shopping columnist and co-host of FM 107's Shop Girls with Alexis Walsko (a/k/a "The Other Alexis"). She even keeps a corresponding blog and updates it almost daily.
- Minneapolis Picks - A weekly, newsletter-style site with an impressive primary staff (see also: Portland, Portland for Men, Phoenix, Chicago, Seattle, and Seattle for Men Picks) as well as a local team of contributors that includes the hardworking Molly Mogren of AndrewZimmern.com.
- New and somehow managed to slip under my radar until just last week is PopFizz Daily, a daily (doy) overview of "what's bubbling in the Twin Cities." PopFizz is written by Sara Glassman, fashion reporter for the Star Tribune.
Expect PopFizz Daily and Minneapolis Picks to have a lot of information overlap; Picks has been around these parts for two and a half years and PopFizz just launched last month. Both are basically the same style, just with different schedules (weekly versus daily), but both will undoubtedly show you something you didn't know existed if you watch them long enough.
As always, you can count on me to cherrypick and write about the deals that I find most appealing, and that I think my readers would most appreciate.
