There's a grip of press releases in my inbox that I need to purge before I head off to Las Vegas in a few hours. I'm also vacuuming, scrubbing and doing dishes because there's no better feeling than coming home after a vacation (even a teeny one) to a clean house, both literally and figuratively. The Mexican is staying home and promises to not make any messes while I'm gone. I've prepared a couple reheatable meals for him in my absence, which he seems to think is extraordinarily funny.
Anyway, here we go:
Bradstreet, the new $10-and-under bar and restaurant in the first floor of the Graves 601, had their soft open last night. If you go this weekend and check it out, please report back to me and I promise I'll play a quarter slot for you. I'm loving this new, uber-affordable dining trend (see also: moto-i in Uptown).
Goodwill is having their Winter Apparel Sale this weekend, Friday and Saturday only. All winter wear items are 50% off.
Cliché’s annual Avoid the Grey fashion show is next Thursday, the 29th. This time in a roomier location: Old Arizona at 28th and Nicollet. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the store or by calling 612-870-0420.
Goodwill's Second Runway fashion show is Saturday, February 7th, at Goodwill headquarters on Fairview Avenue. The event features garments from the stores re-purposed by local designers. Creations are then for sale after the show, with proceeds going to the organization. Tickets are $15 in advance online or $20 at the door.
For something more opulent, also on February 7th, check out the Ice Yourself jewelry fashion show at the Red White & F**king Blue bar atop Chambers Hotel. The $60 ticket includes complimentary drinks all evening and a chance to purchase featured jewelry at a discount. All proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
If you're planning on getting married this year, you'll want to mark your calendar for Goodwill's Bridal Showcase on Saturday, February 21st (yes, Goodwill loves me). There will be over 2,000 bridal and formal dresses, including new, gently used and bridal shop samples at up to 90% off retail. Admission is free and shoppers will be treated to free prize drawings, refreshments and a chance to chat with local wedding professionals (musicians, tailor, bakery, salon, etc.). This event is also at Goodwill headquarters on Fairview Avenue and, as of this week, they are still looking for volunteers to help with the event.
Funny tell the Mexican the Operations Manager here at our house gets a huge pan of reheatables when I leave town. We call it the trough.
