Hey Alexis,
Please forgive the random question, but I was wondering if you knew of any fun Mardi
Gras celebrations in the Twin Cities. I found only a couple on vita.mn and Googling
hasn't been successful. Know of anything? Thanks so much!
Suzanne
Hi Suzanne,
Your random question is a welcome one. This blog needed a little waking up, and a Mardi Gras question is the perfect way to revive it. But can I help you out? Geez, I hope so. I did some digging and honestly didn't find much. For one, almost all nightclubs are closed on Tuesdays. For two, Minnesotans just don't seem to all that get crazy with Mardi Gras.
Here are a couple of things I found, but watch the comments for more ideas. The people that read this blog are of way above average intelligence, and they tend to know where the party's at.
Saturday, February 21st:
- For the animal lover, it's the Minnesota Valley Humane Society's Mardi Gras Party for the Animals. All proceeds from the event go to the shelter's animals awaiting adoption. $75.00 includes dinner, silent auction, wine raffle and speaker Jennifer Pavlovic, author of "8 State Hurricane Kate." (She will donate $5 of the sale of every book to the MVHS either purchased at the event or via her website when you put "MVHS" in the second address line of the order form.) 6:00pm-9:30pm.
- Envy Nightclub is doing a Mardi Gras masquerade and carnival party. $8.00 cover charge and a guaranteed downtown club experience, complete with lots and lots of beads. 10:00pm-2:00am.
Tuesday, February 24th:
- KFAI is throwing an all-day jazz party at the Minneapolis Eagles Club. Looks like it benefits Bands for Band, a local organization dedicated to reinstating music programs in schools where they've been cut for budget reasons. $10.00 adults, $5.00 kids, $25.00 families. 3:00pm-9:00pm.
Friday, February 27th:
- Circus Vargas at The Lounge, another hot downtown spot. Their website is crap, so I can't tell exactly what's going on that night or what time it starts, but if you've been to The Lounge you probably know what to expect. Dress nice, don't show up until 10:00pm and expect electronic music in a dark but posh atmosphere.
Saturday, February 28th:
- It's back, Carnaval Brasileiro at Trocaderos. An event that seems to double in size each year as people continue to find out that these people really know how to throw a party. Go in costume and prepare to have a great time. Tickets are $15.00 in advance or $20.00 at the door.
What else? Anybody got anything good?
