Oh, Hello

Is it really Wednesday already?  Where do the days go.

If you're not busy tonight and you want to catch a great short film, come to the Oak Street Cinema.  Team Red Card Production -- yes, the same team that brought you the award-winning short "Shades of Orange" -- participated in the 24 Hour Film Race last weekend and our 3 1/2-minute masterpiece will screen tonight, along with 25 other submissions.  The reel starts at 7:00pm, so get there early to buy tickets.

I think we're going to grab a beer at Stub & Herb's afterwards, to either celebrate another round of awards won or bitch about the injustice of not winning because people just don't get us and our art.

4 Nominations, 1 Award

I'm so incredibly proud of my team for the 48 Hour Film Project!  We were nominated for four awards:

Best Use of Required Line of Dialogue

Best Special Effects

Best Musical Score

Best Acting in a Female Role

And we took home the award for Best Special Effects! 

I guess the judges appreciated how much work it was to convert a film to black and white and then go back and colorize the oranges, goldfish and scarf throughout.

We were the smallest group to make it to the finals, with just five people on our team.  We were also the only team that didn't rely heavily on comedy to make our film entertaining (as you may recall, it's actually not funny at all.) 

After seeing the other 11 finalists, I have to say that we really did a great f**king job with the genre that we had.  Monster points for creativity and being able to tell a story in 7 minutes with absolutely no speaking or sound effects; just music selection, body language, and a little help from Post-Its.  Go Team Red Card!

48 Hour Film Project: Best of Minneapolis

Guess who's in the winners' circle?

Congrats to my awesome team!  Shades of Orange, along with 11 other films from the 48 Hour Film Project, will screen again at the Riverview tomorrow night at 7:00pm.  Awards ceremony and celebration to follow at Annex downtown, information for that can be found here.

Sex!  Betrayal!  Suspense!  A smoking gun, er, scarf! 

What do all these things have in common?  You'll just have to watch Team Red Card's submission for the 48 Hour Film Project to find out.  Remember, we had just 48 hours from the time we were given a genre (silent), prop (fish), character (Ms. Perkinson, substitute teacher) and line of dialogue ("you look very familiar") to write, shoot, edit and score a 4-7 minute film.  Here's what we made:

It's kind of hard to read some of the post-its because of the YouTube factor, so I'll just tell you that they say "walked today," "left early" and "why don't you look very familiar anymore?"

48 Hour Film Project

Apologies to everyone that tried to contact me this weekend and was either treated with an unreturned phone call or one-sided text conversation.  I was busy making a movie for the 48 Hour Film Project, which kicked off Friday night with a deadline exactly two days later.

Our team had a tricky genre: "silent."  Especially difficult since the 48HFP adds on a handful of additional requirements, one of which was a line of dialogue.  Here's the list of things every team had to include in our movie:

Character: Mr. or Ms. Perkinson, a substitute teacher
Object: Fish
Line: "You look very familiar."

The 48 Hour Film Project premieres start tomorrow night at the Riverview Theater.  Red Card is the name of our team, and our film screens Wednesday night at 8:30pm.  Click here for the whole schedule.
